JewishGen - The largest and most comprehensive website for Jewish genealogy - research information, tools, and extensive databases. One must register to access some sites, but there is no fee. Below are some of JewishGen's offerings:

  • Burial Registry - Project to document burials worldwide.
  • Cemetery Project (IAJGS) - To find documentation of Jewish burial sites in Florida, read the instructional information section and then select North America/USA/Florida.
  • Databases - If your ancestors came from Eastern Europe, this should be one of your first stops on the internet.
  • Discussion Group - A place to ask questions and receive answers from other JewishGen members. Searchable archives.

  • Holocaust Victim's Names - JewishGen joins Yad Vashem's latest drive to record the missing names of Jews who died in the Shoah.
  • Info Files - Information is at your fingertips on topics of relevance to Jewish genealogical research.
  • Jewish Records Indexing - Poland - Although included in the list of JewishGen databases and searchable from JewishGen, this extensive database of Polish vital records is a separate organization whose website is hosted by JewishGen (JRI-Poland.org).
  • List Manager - Manage which email lists you belong to and how you'd like to receive them.
  • ShtetLinks - A collection of links to web pages devoted to individual Jewish communities.
  • ShtetlSeeker - Enter name of town and get latitude and longitude coordinates of all towns with that name, find how far a town is from any other town, find names of all towns a certain distance from a given town. If you click on the coordinates listed for a town, you can get map of area where town is located.
  • ShtetlSchleppers - Organized tours of ancestral shtetls.

  • Yizkor Book Project - Memorial books created after WWII by survivors of destroyed communities, originally written mostly in Yiddish and Hebrew. Contain history of towns, stories about people in them, lists of those killed. English translations of many of these are being posted on the website chapter by chapter.
  • Yizkor Book Necrology Index - Lists of names of victims of the Holocaust mentioned in numerous Yizkor books.
 
     
 

Akevoth - Dutch Jewish Genealogical Database - Many Marranos emigrated to Amsterdam during the Spanish Inquisition. This database includes birth, death and marriage information, as well as circumcision registers for several area mohels.
